Color Positive, or “Chrome” film is about the hardest medium to shoot. With only 3 stops of exposure latitude, take everything you know about black and white large format photography and multiply the difficulty level by 10.
Large format photography is like digital photography…if you take away all the technology from it. There is nothing instant in large format. Multiple manual exposure readings, math and formulas, measuring tape, the camera (which is just a box with a lens in front of it), film, pen, paper, calculator if you’re not handy with the math, and a blanket to put over your head (not for snoozing) are just the essential things you need to take a photo that a digital photographer could snap in seconds and walk away. I’m also really good at run on sentences.
